Albert Hall reaps the benefits of ABTT Theatre Show's exhibitor Audience Systems’ removable seating
Unfortunately Audience Systems won’t have room to demonstrate their Matrix Flat Floor Seating System at this year’s ABTT Theatre Show so they went along to the Royal Albert Hall to take some photos of the system in action.

The seating has been in use at the Hall for two years, replacing the more traditional 'banqueting' chairs which had previously been used on the arena floor.

It’s difficult to imagine a tougher theatrical environment for removable seating than the Albert Hall, with its large capacity, regular layout changes and space restrictions which require the seating to be moved to its storage area via a lift. However the Hall are already reaping the benefits of the new seating. “We are extremely happy with the seating design,” comments Head of Project Management Jen Mills, “which has reduced setting out time and manual labour.”
The photos tell the story of how the seating achieves these improvements. The Matrix System consists of bars placed on the floor, and groups of tip-up seats which slot into the bars.
The system requires less handling than banqueting chairs, and with the seats tipping up, it provides wider seatways and better comfort than banqueting chairs. It’s all stored away and transported on specially designed storage trolleys. The Espace 628 model seats used in the system include tough plastic outer backs to help the seating withstand knocks and bumps.
As ever the system is backed up with Audience Systems’ attention to quality and customer service.
Jen Mills comments, “Audience Systems provided the Royal Albert Hall with excellent service and attention to detail from conceptual stage through to delivery of the Espace 628 Matrix Floor Bar System in September 2011.”
